Our Work |
Looping the Loop creates and runs one-off special projects with communities across Thanet, responding to local need, wider initiatives and special occasions like Christmas. We also run a year-round programme which includes our youth theatre, the 'School of Acting', and a professional network for practitioners - PACT (Performing Arts Collective Thanet). We believe that introducing children to theatre will improve their experiences and sense of opportunity. We believe that supporting creative artists to make their work is essential for people's wellbeing.
With the Collaborative Touring Network, each year we bring a new national touring production to Thanet, co-producing it with the network of eight towns around England. We make work that relates to people in Thanet and which supports notions of equality and access.
CURRENT PROJECTS
We are making a community play to be performed in 2025, based on the life of 'Lord' George Sanger and the world of the Showman. For autumn 2023 we are producing Making More Waves, a professional development festival with the Cliftonville Cultural Space (ARK).
Performing Arts Collective Thanet (PACT)
We believe every artist needs to be paid and we actively support artists to keep working, to maintain their wellbeing and to develop their personal skills and opportunities. We realised that many practitioners felt alone and had few external resources to count on, so in 2016 we established a peer support network in Thanet working in any aspect of live performance. Initially called TNT - Theatre Network Thanet, it was re-named PACT in 2018. Membership is free (but donations are very welcome!) and include a monthly meet up opportunity.

Youth Theatre - the School of Acting
Our youth theatre offers a different experience to the schemes which focus around musical theatre and making a big production once a year. We are theatre-based, all our trainers are experienced actors or directors and our focus is on the craft of acting. Participants learn theatre 'games' and exercises, they learn to share and collaborate and they learn to use their imagination to create stories, characters and scenes in styles from comedy to drama. We miss having the Theatre Royal as it's beautiful playground, but have a very smart base at the Cliftonville Community Centre.
