Venue: Tom Thumb Theatre
We all have a nationality.
Or almost all of us.
This is a globe-spanning journey of attempted escape, told, and sung, in deserts, airports and protests, at borders and on rooftops. Status is about someone who doesn’t want his nationality any more. It’s about running away from the national story you’re given, and what might happen to it if you give it up. The show grabs you by the seat of the pants from the first moment, it’s a roller-coaster journey with people’s stories from around the world, told with humour, like you might chat in a pub, and with Chris on his guitar, bringing new dimensions all the time. It’s powerful and intriguing, funny and down to earth.
The team behind the show are responsible for a series of successful plays and are Edinburgh Fringe First winners. The show was supported in its development by Looping the Loop and the Collaborative Touring Network and researched partly in Thanet with a reading held on 25 April 2018.
The audience age is advised as 14+
The show was commissioned by Battersea Arts Centre, Warwick Arts Centre and Les Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg.
