Looping the Loop is a festival of live arts in the three towns of Thanet on the East Kent coast: Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. Festivals run twice a year.
Looping the Loop is part of the Collaborative Touring Network, a partnership between six towns and theatre promoters across the UK, with three new towns being added in 2016. The joint aim is to inspire a new generation of theatre-goers and theatre-makers, navigating across the country, presenting a combination of acclaimed productions from Battersea Arts Centre and locally produced shows. Ramsgate Arts is the lead promoter here in Thanet working in collaboration with the Tom Thumb Theatre and freelance director, Ellie Jones.
Expect diverse, exciting, high quality programming for all ages, across a range of venues, including some surprising places, stimulating lively discussion and inviting audience participation at every turn. Will you be Looping the Loop in Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs?
Our partner towns across the UK are Hull, Darlington, Gloucester, Torbay, Medway, Wigan and Peterborough. We are collectively discovering a huge amount about the challenge of finding new audiences for live performance and we are sharing models of good practice, success and learning points.
The Collaborative Touring Network is supported by Arts Council England and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and is part of Battersea Arts Centre’s Take Out, which enables audiences far beyond Battersea to share in a discovery of tomorrow’s theatre. The programme launched in August 2011 at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, since then Battersea Arts Centre has brought Take Out work to over 40 festivals and venues across the UK, including Latitude, Dublin Theatre Festival and Southbank Centre.
The Looping the Loop Festival consortia are grateful for the warm support of Theatre Royal Margate and Your Leisure and for continued funding support from Kent County Council through the Arts Investment Fund. In 2015 we have also been awarded a grant from the Big Lottery Awards For All programme for Loop & Learn workshops. We have begun a partnership with Garsington Opera and their education programme Opera For All, initiated by Ramsgate Arts.
